Alot of pain 4 weeks after shoulder surgery?
I had sub acromial decompression, clavicle resection, instability, and slap tear surgery on Nov. 5 07. I am still in alot of pain. I go to therapy 3x week. I also take 3 800mg ibuprofen 3x day. I ice several times a day.The ibuprofen does not help at all. The pain is excruciating at times. Sometimes not so bad but always there. It aches all the time but sometimes feels like something is caught between bones. Is this normal or should I call Dr. Does anyone know how to relieve this?
Are you still wearing your sling? If not, try using it more because it can help support the arm. Usually after this type of surgery, for the first month your should be doing passive range of motion exercises only. It's okay to take off your sling, but you should not be using your arm, unless your doctor says so.
If your therapist gave you pendulum exercises, do them faithfully. Also range of motion exercises for the elbow, wrist, and forearm. Ask your therapist to show you how.
If your pain is unbearable, you should talk to your doctor. He may change your medication.

Oh, Oh. OH. Relieve it? That would depend on your definition of relief. My definition is totally non-standard to meet it the injury must be 100% healed/fix with full function restored.
The how to instruction are posted here http://www.helium.com/tm/148271
Read and apply unless you wish to suffer for the rest of your life.

Pain after surgery shouldn't be just treated with Ibuprofen you need stronger medications. Ibuprofen simply helps reduce swelling and inflammation it will not touch bone or nerve pain in any manner.
You should be on something like loritab 10 and soma. The combination of these two will almost always stop any surgery pains.
Good luck and never think your doctor is a god. He works for you,you tell him what you need if what he is doing doesn't work make him change your medications.
And don't fall for the old line that opioid medications are addictive less than 1/10 of 1% of people that take them correctly ever get addicted.

I have had 22 surgeries ,from a 6 bypass heart surgery to having four fingers amputated and reattached as well as cervical spine fusion.
I have more experience than most surgeons do.
The biggest problem in pain management is finding a doctor who has actually experienced pain himself. They are the only ones that can give good advice and relief.
(28 years of searching and I finally found pain relief)

I think you should call your Doctor, because my boyfriend has had both of his shoulders done in the past 6 months, the first one same as you only with 2 tears. He has very little pain at all. Definitely not like you are describing.
I actually have to back him off of doing too much, because he kinda forgets.
I'm sorry you still hurt, that is one of the worst surgeries pain wise that a person can go through, but you shouldn't hurt like that still.
Good Luck.

When you were in the hospital was a pain pump used in your shoulder? If you so it could have damaged your shoulder cartilage which can result in permanent shoulder problems. You should call your doctor and get check out. This law firm has information about the condition http://www.shouldersurgerylawsuit.com
