anyone had epidural shots due to herniated disc? anyone tried smoking pot just to be able to relax?
diagnosed with herniated disc for about 5months now, been going to Physical therapy and some inflammotory meds, massages, chiropractor and light exercise. but after all that at the end of that day, i'm still in so much pain,( the most comfortable position would the fetal position). i'm going for my 1st shot of epidural is there anything i need to know for anyone who'se gone through this. also i tried smoking the J, i could say it helps a lot for me. But i dont know if it has bad effects or does it actually works as muscle relaxers… i find this site very helpful, thanks
I have had the steriod epidural shot late last year for a herniated disk and instantly felt such relief. I cried. And lowered, considerably, my pain killer dosage.
It is only just starting to wear off now and I are considering another one.

No it doesnt really have bad side effects…you could POSSIBLY start to lose brain cells but that isnt TOO common…of course it helps you it makes you take your mind off of the pain and helps numb it….

I've had epidural shots off and on for about 15 years. They do give some measure of relief - have a driver for after the procedure. I've driven myself, and it's much better having someone else drive due to minor discomfort following the procedure.
I've also tried smoking. I know of several people it helps, including a friend who is a recent amputee. For myself, no luck. You might see if you can get medicinal marijuana, or a prescription for THC from your physician.

the theory behind the shot is the cortisone will dull the pain and the steroid will make your muscles pick up the slack for your disc issues.if you lucky you will get a yr out of it.I chose not to take the shot because while the steroid makes your muscle stronger it also makes your bones (vertebrae) brittle.this will disqualify for certain surgical procedure later on in life.If you opt for surgical intervention. got my 2 herniated discs fixed here

i would reccommend reading this book and trying to avoid a shot and surgery for as long as possible.
