Do Spinal Injections work to cure a herniated disc?
I have a herniated disc at L5/S1 and one doctor is suggesting a spinal injection. They will inject a gel-like material into the L5/S1 area and spread out the spine so the disc no longer presses on the nerves. I am looking to get this done at Henry Ford Hospital
Anyone heard of this or have personal experience?
My husband herniated L4/L5 a few years ago. The injection was talked about, but they opted for the removal of the part that had actually herniated or a laminectomy. I've not heard anything bad about the injection, except that you may have to go back and have it done again after a while. Definately is less invasive than the laminectomy.
Either way, you will probably be in some discomfort the rest of your life, there really isn't a way to fix 100 percent once the disc has herniated.
