Had Lumbar Laminectomy 04/2008. Still having severe leg pain , and lower right side back pain. ?
Nov. 14, 2008 had another Neurosurgeon visit , and he is stumped . Had second MRI , EMG , Myelogram , Emg showed nerve root irritation , but everything else he said looks good . I am now on Gabapatein 300 mgm , do not know if this will help. What can I expect ??
I also have experienced nerve pain and was prescribe Neuronton (Gabapatien) also. This medication made me forget things ie; names, directions, and simple things. It also swelled my throat, lips and the inside of my mouth and caused a bad rash. My Doctor took me off this and prescribed lyric, this mimicked the other reactions. It turns out that I cannot take this family of medications because of the side effects. I have seen a pain Doctor, and I am now on a Medication pain plan, Oxycontin and Oxycodone and sleep medication. This plan works better the side effects of these medications are not as severe as the other side effects. And nerve pain is something that will not go away. You may also try heat and cold therapy (ice and heating pad) each for 20 minutes during the very bad pain times, I have found that it works faster then any medication if you are in need of instant relief.

could be something is still there that didn’t pick up on the cat scan, mri etc. try the medication but if the pain persists, go back and bug your doctor again. its very unlikely that this is just in your head, or standard recovery
